A Mattin cutpurse gathers jewelry in a flea market.
Mattin/Mousefolk have always been excellent criminals, with their friendly faces and little bodies they were rarely suspected as they journeyed across the countryside, snatching up as many valuable items as they could along the way. It rarely caused them grief until they came to Manzan. Confined to a city, they were much easier to catch and confined to one kingdom, they were easier to track down.
The Mattin are mostly thieves and necromancers nowadays, growing dead meat into a profit or simply taking whatever they can. The old stigma of necromancy being evil still exists outside the Mattin sewers. Indeed, almost every unsavory job has been forced upon Manzan’s Mattin, who are the majority of the city plumbers, chimney sweeps, maids, street sweepers, and anything else nobody wants to do.
Added to this are laws restricting what Mattin are allowed to do- they can’t own businesses, be military officers, or live in specified areas (the living laws apply to Kitsune as well but the Kitsune wouldn’t live with humans anyways).
The most important members of Mattin society are the necromancers, who regularly trade food for services rendered down in the sewers. Each necromancer has a group of informants, assassins, entertainers, concubines, and thieves taking care of them and fighting for control of the best meat markets. All they need is a few dead bodies and some knack with magic that let’s them grow meat like cancer off of the bodies.
Mattin assassins are the best in the city- because mice do all the unimportant jobs, a properly dressed Mattin can go anywhere or do anything. A few Mattin have even learned to use their tails to garrote their targets.
Mattin thugs usually put weights and blades on their tails to give them reach against larger, stronger opponents. They usually work in groups of 4 to 6 who very quickly- and brutally- send their message before running back to the sewers.
A few Mattin have been adopted by the dragon Zefire as servants. Little is known about them.
All Mattin have the small subtype and a -2 to strength. In addition, they gain access to the Extra Limb feat.
All Mattin choose any three of the following at character creation:
